HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY AMERICA!

This was a strange week for me as far as the surf goes. Using my waist high or better criteria can sometimes create doubt. My own doubt. When I'm working out of my home office, I depend on the surf cams. And usually they are pretty accurate. And when I'm down at the beach office, I can simply look out the window, and gage the surf. And that's real accurate.

This week I thought I saw a waist high wave. But I didn't shoot any. So, if I say it's a waist high week, but I don't have any proof, is my word good enough? Actually, it was the word of two separate surfers that I am banking on. One guy last night, said he waited a long time, but did get a waist high wave. But there was no photographic evidence.

So I used the tree in the woods theory. You all know it.

If a tree falls in the woods, and nobody is there to witness it, does it still make a sound? Of course it does. So I am going by the word of these two surfers, to acknowledge that, there was in fact, waist high surf this week. They are both legit surfers who I trust. So, you'll just have to take my word for it. Otherwise, I guess you could sue me. Good luck with that.

You all know that TV spot, "What's in your wallet?" My answer is "Not much."

So I lost a few friends this past year. No, not from sickness or death.
I lost them because of lack of respect. When you disrespect me, we have a problem, especially if you hurt a member of my family. For one of these ex-friends, there is no forgiveness, that ex-friend is banished for life. But the other two? Well, that really depends on them. They need to man up, and apologize. We're adults, people make mistakes, we stay things we didn't mean and then feel terrible about it. So be a real man, and apologize. I have always apologized when I was wrong. And trust me, I've been wrong a few times in my life. Quite a few.

Saying your sorry is easy to do. But being stubborn? That's stupid.

Stubbornness can get you in trouble. Yeah, they are unfriended and blocked on facebook. But I'm not concerned about that. I want an apology. Not hiding behind some computer screen with your false bravado. Everyone is a bad-ass behind the computer. Come out from behind your I-phone and be a man.

Speaking of old friends, I used to have these two British friends who I would call on July 4th. It was back in my early Rock and Roll days. I loved being a little sarcastic and rub it in a little. After all, we won our Independence from the Brits. The Red Coats. I used to wonder what they all did on The 4th of July.

Probably cried in their British tea. I'm kidding.

Yup. It's that time of the year again kids. The 13th Annual Surf Art Blog.
ANYONE who has any kind of Art relating to the ocean and surfing should send me their art. And by send, I mean via email, Facebook, or any of the other digital avenues. Just send them.

It's not a contest. It's just an appreciation for surf art. This year we are dedicating the Surf Art Blog to the late John Severson. If you're not a surfer, just Google him. But you surfers know who he is. He started SURFER magazine. He was a filmmaker as well as an artist.

He is the ICON of modern day surfing.

So I'm about halfway done on shooting this latest project. I need a couple of more swells to make this come together, what I have so far is pretty good.

Now for Some More Of My Weekly Global Observances
TRUMP TV is the same this week. More embarrassing tweets, followed by even more humiliating comments. Every single day on TRUMP TV you can get your fill. What's truly amazing is the two cable Giants CNN and FOX have two completely different angles on TRUMP TV. One is obviously Pro Trump, while the other is Anti Trump. Going back and forth is like living on Bizzarro planet.

It's a crazy world we all live in, and it's getting crazier by the hour.
KSM Photoshop of the Week

OK our boy KSM wants to remind you all to be careful with Fireworks this 4th of July. He was badly injured a couple of years ago down in GITMO. Some of the other Terrorists convinced Khaliddy to stick a Roman candle up his butt. He suffered tremendous burns in his rectum. So please, Have a Happy and Safe Fourth!

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of Preparation-H at Home Depot

(Below) For those of you who have been paying attention, you would know that I was one of three Americans to surf Nova Scotia in 1971. We went back year after year and kept this secret under wraps until SURFER caught wind of it. That was the end of our Last Frontier. It was me, Bruz (photo) and Jeff the photographer. Those days are some of my fondest surf memories.

JUNEASTER June 7-8-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The welcomed Nor'easter we got on June 6th, 2017 that gave us 3 solid days of waves. All the points, reefs, and beaches were firing. I shot from NH to ME. And while the overall conditions were not exactly ideal, the vibe in and out of the water was filled with laughter. Why do surfers have to be so cruel to one another, especially when watching your buds get smoked out in the water? I don't know, but it's always been that way. We hoot when someone gets a good wave, and we howl when someone eats shit. Ha...I'm smiling now just writing this.

This web edit is a first for me. The shooting was shared with Kyle Linseman's cool Drone footage. I can foresee a partnership working with Kyle. He's stoked about shooting the action. And make no mistake about it, Kyle can rip. So for him to sacrifice his own surf time to shoot, speaks volumes of his new found passion. The music is by Meshell Ndegeocello and John Digwood. I'm stoked about this one. Hope you will be too.

MOTHER'S DAY SWELL May 14-15-16-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. This is the web edit for the 3 Day Mother's Day Swell. It never really got bigger than head high. And it rained the first two days. Still, it was surf, and beggars can't be choosers now can we. I did the edit today after hearing about the death Chris Cornell, lead singer for Soundgarden. He had a great voice. It's ironic because I was looking for the right song to go with this edit. And I believe I found it with Black Hole Sun. The surfers that I can remember are: Kai Nichols, Tom Hay, Andy Elliott, Mikey Moran, Skip Brunette, Erik Zak, Kody Grondin, Chris Stelman, Max Fatello, Mikey Evans, and a handful I couldn't ID. This is for all the mothers. past, present, and future. And it's in memory of Chris Cornell.

The Forgotten Go Pro Footage 2014-2016 Part 1
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

This is a series of web edits that was all shot on my old GoPro. How old? Well it's the HERO II. So that's 3 GoPros ago. Did I just write that? I guess I did. Any way, this first edit was shot on the last day of Summer in 2014. The surfers are (that I can remember) : Perry Reynolds, Kai Nichols, Lenny Nichols, Mike Rosa, Zach Bru, Bryan Johnson, Kyle Linesman, Kenny Linseman, and a bunch of others. *You might want to take some Dramamine before watching this. It's all water shots, so no tripods were used. Music is by Trentemoller and Grenier.

The Forgotten GoPro Footage Part II 2014-2016 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

More of the GoPro footage I had lying around. It's pretty much small wall footage. Though, it is noteworthy a the clips of Kevin Grondin were all shot on his birthday last Jun 23d, 2016. The rest is mostly empty waves with Mackey getting a few. The real cool thing about this web edit is. 50 years ago today, May 12th, 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their debut LP. This song was on that record. And I remember it all like it was yesterday. Funny thing is, the song is as current today as it was 50 years ago. Do check it out.
